T and G Limited

When civil engineering consultancy T & G Limited celebrated its 20th anniversary in February 2010, the directors had already decided they wanted to mark this occasion with a special event for both staff and clients.

When they approached us they were envisaging holding a summer social with a World Cup theme, so we immediately set to work to secure The Boat House overlooking St Aubin’s Harbour as a suitable venue for the day of the England v Slovenia group match. We also recognized that there were likely to be a number of similar World Cup parties and client events held during June and July, so it was important that their invitation not only stood out but that they were the first off the mark.

With St Valentine’s Day imminent, we thought it would be an interesting idea to time the delivery of the event invitation to coincide with this annual exchange of cards and messages.

T & G agreed and speedily approved our proposed design, but this still only left us with just over 48 hours to complete and print the final artwork in our studio. Even with such a short timescale, all photo manipulation and retouching was managed to our usual high standard while each card and envelope was personalised with the use of a hand-written script, with data extracted from T & G’s database.

Deliberately arriving ‘late’ the day after Valentine's Day, the card aroused a little extra curiosity by including a poem which seemed to be about unrequited love. However, when the recipient viewed the inside, the poem (surprisingly) turned out to be about the shared love of football.

The take-up for this event was extremely high and guests were rewarded not only with a favourable result (a somewhat nerve-wracking 1-0 win for England) but also glorious sunshine, which allowed everyone to enjoy the splendid buffet and refreshments from the terrace and balconies overlooking St Aubin’s Harbour. Those present were also the first to hear the announcement of T & G’s merger with McCathie Associates Limited (MAL) of Guernsey, resulting in the formation of a new pan-Channel Islands structural and civil engineering practice.

The Idea Works was also engaged both to help rebrand the two companies, to reflect their new joint approach, and to promote awareness of the merger throughout the Channel Islands through a carefully targeted PR and advertising campaign. We also redesigned and updated the websites, which both now feature a range of different projects undertaken by the two firms over the past two decades.
