A Project Six Years in the Making

Ambition
Back in March of 2009 The Idea Works were approached by the Education, Sport and Culture Department to put forward a brand presentation for a bid to have the NatWest Island Games take place in Jersey in 2015. By July 2010, after much work had taken place, Jersey won the right to stage the 2015 NatWest Island Games XVI after beating Gotland by a single vote.

Action
We worked with the NatWest Island Games XVI Jersey 2015 Organising Committee to define a clear ambition for the Games. These Games were to be everyone’s, an opportunity for all 24 island’s sporting stars to shine and a platform for all fellow islanders to grow and develop. The Games logo was designed to emphasize this, with the shapes used to symbolize an athlete in action, and the words “a time to shine” to reflect the ethos of the NatWest Island Games XVI Jersey 2015.

Having won the opportunity to be the Official Marketing Partner for the Games, the foundations of the brand were set in place, and we were kept busy from the word go.

We’ve worked on a multitude of projects since 2011, most notably the Games Medals, Souvenir Programme, Official Merchandise and branding for the Games Village in Howard Davis Park.

Amongst the larger projects however, there have been many that have had a crucial role in the running of such a large event. From a numbered baggage label system for visiting athletes, signage, bunting, car stickers and social media; we’ve seen through the entire Games marketing collateral from beginning to end. Everyone playing any part in the Games will also be carrying an official accreditation pass and lanyard also designed by the Idea Works Team.

Impact
The brand we’ve created has helped shape the experience of the NatWest Island Games XVI Jersey 2015 and we hope that its helped to take the Games beyond just sport, but also a celebration of culture and friendship. Its been a pleasure to work with the organisers all of whom have gone to great efforts to put on a memorable event, not to better any previous Island Games but to make it unique to Jersey, and we think they’ve done just that.

We wish all the organisers, competitors and volunteers good luck, and hope that you all have a fantastic week at the NatWest Island Games XVI Jersey 2015.

“The Idea Works have been an invaluable partner not only helping us to produce all the marketing collateral, but also to providing guardianship of the NatWest Island Games XVI Jersey 2015 brand. They have helped us to find answers to many of the challenges we’ve come across along the organisational journey and have demonstrated the flexibility, creativity and dependability needed to make these Games shine.”
