The Idea Works are incredibly proud to have successfully been awarded the contract to design and produce the Jersey 2015 NatWest Island Games XVI medals in partnership with C.I. Engravers. The brief given by the Island Games Association of Jersey, was to ‘create a set of medals that reflected the spirit of the Games with elements unique to Jersey.’
On one side of the medals we wanted to strongly convey the fact that the Games are an opportunity for absolutely everyone involved, at all levels… their chance to shine. Just as the Games unite islands and people, the shapes used in the Jersey 2015 logo join together to symbolise an athlete in action, along with the words “a time to shine” reflecting the ethos of Jersey 2015.
On the other side are the three iconic leopards (leopard being the heraldic term for a lion passant guardant), which are intrinsic to Jersey’s coat of arms and flag. These will then be engraved with the details of the Games and the sporting event for which the medal is to be awarded.
The names of every member island are cast around the edge of both sides. As a finishing touch each medal hangs on a ribbon incorporating the colours and details of the Games’ major sponsor, NatWest.
Steve Bailey, Games Director for the NatWest Island Games XVI – Jersey 2015 said:
“The Idea Works medal design meets the design brief in every way the Jersey NatWest Organising Committee unanimously voted these medals the clear winners. We wanted the medals to reflect the very best of Jersey and some of its remarkable history the three leopards featured on the medals do that and sit comfortably with the very modern Games logo. I am convinced that every athlete who is awarded one of the medals will feel every bit a champion I also believe that they will remind them of a great Games and a wonderful stay in our beautiful island.”
